Last weekend at the Grosvenor Victoria Casino on Edgware Road, London, Black Belt Poker, in association with Bluff Europe Magazine, held their first Boot Camp of 2010, an intense two-day poker course in which attendees were guaranteed face-to-face tuition with an expert of their choosing.
Sharing their wealth of knowledge and experience were Black Belt Poker co-founders Neil Channing and Nik Persaud, as well as Bluff columnist and Omaha High-Low specialist Alex ‘Pickleman’ Rousso. A variety of topics were discussed, including equity calculations, bankroll management and live hand analysis, with Blue Belt Kevin Williams popping in to present a lecture on Phil Galfond’s ‘G Bucks’.
On the Saturday evening, players were given the chance to participate in a Boot Camp freeroll, the winner of which would earn an all-expenses paid trip to Vegas and entry into a World Series of Poker side event. After an exciting back and forth battle, it was Billy Graham who came out on top with Green Belt Mike Carroll picking up second. Billy plans to head out to the City of Sin at the end of June to play in event #42’s $1,500 No Limit Hold’em freezeout.
The general consensus was that the Boot Camp was a roaring success with attendees offering positive feedback on the weekend. Purple Belt and former Grader Carey Hollick commented: “It was an awesome weekend, I love being able to see everyone and learning so much more about the game. I love Black Belt so much, they really do care about the players.”
Mike Carroll added: “It was a really good weekend. I had loads of fun as well as learning loads more stuff. The value you get from Black Belt Poker is second to none.”
Despite the poker world making its annual pilgrimage to Vegas, Black Belt Poker are offering plenty of added value to those who choose to stay at home including freerolls, DeucesCracked subscriptions and, making its debut this month, the Live Backing freeroll, a Purple Belt exclusive online qualifier into the $80,000 Guaranteed DTD Monthly Deepstack.
