Chain Ruaction; Robinson Wins Samurai

The way of the Samurai was Black Belt Poker last night, as Owen Ruaction Robinson emerged from the battlefield as the sole surviving warrior.

With 36 competing for a $10,000 guarantee there was an enticing overlay for those with the loudest war cry, but it was Owen who seized the moment and collected the $4,000 reward.

The field was awash with talent, such as Sam Grafton, Richard Ashby, and recent East End Live II Champion Nik Stylianou. Reigning League Champion Timothy HammerHorror O'Mahoney was also an intimidating presence.

They weren't the only names wielding swords as former Champion Adam sirusthevirus1 Stoneham was playing while on his honeymoon in Tunisia. "She could be a keeper," suggested Neil Channing.

Meanwhile, an in-form Paul 2LAMCHOP2 Lamonby had earned a spot after winning both the Deepstack Mulligan and Turbo Takedown in succession, and seven others had qualified from the previous night's Mega Satellite.

Some big names fell early on with David Pomroy (35th), Neil Channing (34th), and Niall Farrell (32nd) later followed by former Champion Frederick Ogilvie (17th). Then, with Peter Derrick feeling the splash of the bubble, we were down to our final table of six.

With the likes of UKIPT Brighton Champion Jamie Burland and inaugural Ninja Champion Hasmukh Khodiyara sharpening their blades, this was probably the toughest Samurai final to date, but it was one that Owen overcome after toppling Blue Belt David Gentry heads-up.

A 30-year old semi-pro from Wexford, Owen is a former Grab a Grand winner who won two trophies at the 2010 Irish Poker Awards including the illustrious Player of the Year title for his impressive trio of UKIPT cashes.

"That was a lot of fun," rejoiced Owen. "David and Jamie played great from two tables out, particularly when we were hand for hand. I picked up hands in key pots; people folded when I didn't have it."

Samurai is a $250+25 freezeout exclusive to Black Belt Poker. If you would like to play the next one, then keep your eyes peeled on the site as we'll be confirming the date in the coming days.

In the meantime, make sure you join us for the next Black Belt Poker League, which will be kicking off on Tuesday, June 04 with the first of eight $5+0.50 No Limit Hold'em legs.

1st  Ruaction -- $4,000

3rd  StilettoMafiosa -- $1,600

HammerHorror Story

Following eight legs of dogged action, Timothy HammerHorror O'Mahoney this week achieved every poker's player's dream of winning the Black Belt Poker League and getting his hands on an personalised hoodie.

Exclusive attire and bragging rights aside, HammerHorror also earned himself a free passage into Samurai, a $250+25 freezeout taking place on Wednesday, May 22 and armed with a $10,000 guarantee.

HammerHorror appeared to play it understandably safe on Tuesday, finishing 28th from a field of 71, and securing himself his first League victory by a comfortable 34-point margin and ultimately finishing on a whopping 560 points.

This opened the window for a fresh face to tie up the final leg, that man being first-time winner Richard PLWashy234 Scott, who defeated a sturdy final table lineup that included three former Champions.

The only change in the top 20 occurred near the bottom, with kippery - who finished 60th - succumbing to mikeymixitup whose runner-up spot launched him into joint 17th and earned him a tidy 100 Belt Points for his troubles.

There was plenty of action on Black Belt Poker for the rest of the week with a special mention required for Paul 2LAMCHOP2 Lamonby, who became the first player to take down three tournaments, one of which earned him a free seat in next week's Samurai.

East End Live II: Winning in Styl-ianou

In the early hours of this morning, London tournament regular Nik Stylianou became only the second ever East End Live Champion, taking home $9,000 and a year's supply of bragging rights.

A total of 287 salivating poker enthusiasts swamped the increasingly popular Aspers Casino in Stratford for East End Live II, with pros and amateurs alike battling it across three days for the illustrious trophy.

Jumping out from the player list were the likes of Joe Beevers, Nick Wealthall, James Dempsey, Jen Mason and defending Champion Sonny Pomroy, as well as Black Belt Poker sponsored pros Jerome Bradpiece, Richard Ashby and Sensei Neil Channing.

The tournament also included 13 pro bounties, in which would-be assassins received their $200+25 buy-in back if Orange Belt on June 01. Thomas Mahon must have developed a craving for the taste of paradise as he captured an incredible three bounties worth $675.

After Jamie Walden felt the full splash of the bubble, the final table was set with Dan Whittaker (affectionately nicknamed 'The Terminator') the runaway leader:

Seat 1: Craig Connaughton -- 475,000
Seat 2: Jim Parberry -- 550,000
Seat 3: George Achillea -- 330,000
Seat 4: Dan Whittaker -- 1,300,000
Seat 5: Michael Brock -- 270,000
Seat 6: Nik Stylianou -- 385,000
Seat 7: Mark England -- 305,000
Seat 8: Carlo Hassan -- 430,000
Seat 9: Lee Brooke-Pearce -- 145,000

Prior to the tournament, Black Belt Poker added a WSOP Main Event seat to first to any Orange Belt (or above) playing the event. Three players on the final had been Tango-ed with Mark England, Carlo Hassan and Michael Brock all dreaming of "Vegas and the f****ing Mirage".

The first casualty, however, was short stack and former Irish Open finalist Lee Brooke-Pearce. He was followed to the rail by Michael Brock who was F-5-ed out of the tournament with A-2 versus A-J.

George then found his Achillea heel with A-J versus J-J all in on the turn of a J-2-K-4 board while Carlo Hassan joined him at the bar with tens being dominated by a couple of pocket ladies.

The Famous Five turned into the Fab Four when Craig Connaughton ran A-Q into A-K, and then last surviving Orange Belt Mark England bubbled the podium in fourth when his K-J was cruelly cracked by J-6, and A-7 unable to improve against A-9.

With three remaining, it was Dan Whittaker who'd maintained his chip lead with over two million, but when Nik Stylianou dispatched off Jim Parberry (A-9 versus Td-8d all in on the flop of a 6s-6d-7d-2d-5d board), we were heads-up for the title and roughly even in chips.

A back-and-forth rally to rival Borg/McEnroe quickly ensued with Whittaker gaining the slight edge, but a T-7 versus 5-5 coinflip brought them back to even before a seemingly harmless hand triggered some unexpected fireworks.

A 6c-Ad-4h-9d board was in the process of being quietly checked down until the 3h river sparked more action than a Die Hard box set with both players pushing their chips across the line. Cards on their backs and Stylianou had caught the perfect card with 7-5 versus 5-2 for the superior straight.

The Fat Lady was already reaching for the microphone, and a hand or two later and she was belting out her favourite tune, Whittaker's final 700,000 going in with 4h-2c, but unable to budge Kd-8h on a clinical 8d-7h-Qh-Qs-9h board.

A 40-year old poker fanatic from Islington, London, Stylianou was one of 27 who earned their seat through a live satellite at Aspers, before going on to capture the East End Live II title and all-important spondoolies.

"I felt confident all the way through the tournament," he revealed amid the post-match celebrations. "I play quite aggressive, but so does Dan so I thought he'd cause me the most trouble out of anyone on the final table

"This was a brilliant event. A great venue and a really well organised tournament. One of the best things was the friendly atmosphere. It had a real community spirit. I was umming and arring about Vegas before, but I think this win has helped me make up my mind."

East End Live II was an undeniable success, so our thanks go out to all those who participated, and in particular the bounties who bravely put their body on the line. While the smoke may have cleared for this event, we have another tournament just around the corner with Samurai on May 22. Make sure you join us.

1st  Nik Stylianou -- $9,000*
2nd  Dan Whittaker -- $8,500
3rd  Jim Parberry -- $5,700
4th  Mark England -- $4,600
5th  Craig Connaughton -- $3,600
6th  Carlo Hassan -- $2,750
7th  George Achillea -- $2,000
8th  Michael Brock -- $1,560
9th  Lee Brooke-Pearce -- $1,200

* A deal was agreed heads-up to split the money equally and play for $500 and the trophy.

AMANESS13 Wins Penultimate League Leg

Amid the hoopla of East End Live, the League witnessed its penultimate leg of the season on Tuesday with 70 players jostling for position in the standings.

This time is was former Grader Darius AMANESS13 Demetriou who came out smelling of roses, his $5.50 morphing into a rather more fruity $105.00 after surviving a tough final table.

The usual suspects were present and correct, including Leg 2 winner Russ nicenutter Cocrhan and Mark VBlueBBP Varela who improved by one spot from last week's showing.

1st  AMANESS13 -- $105.00
2nd  HammerHorror -- $70.00
3rd  nicenutter -- $52.50
4th  tealcSVU -- $35.00
5th  PhilDee64 -- $26.25
6th  VBlueBBP -- $19.25
7th  NPStars1 -- $15.75
8th  CarpyGAS -- $14.00
9th  7onyB -- $12.25

The silver medal around HammerHorror's neck could prove pivotal heading into the final leg, as he's leapfrogged bornTOflirt into first and now leads by 42 points.

Further down, baligirl13, stevegw, eixip50 and TeeDeeEye1 all scraped into the top 20, and therefore a prize spot, the latter having bubbled Leg 7 in 10th.

The hotly anticipated East End Live II kicks off tomorrow at Aspers Casino, Stratford, and this week we gave players their final chances to win a seat.

On Tuesday, Blue Belt Jamie Burland secured his ticket in the $5+0.50 rebuy, while the following day Dean Aldred topped the Orange Belt Freeroll and 12 players qualified from our $30+3 Mega.

If you've missed the boat, then it's not too late to jump aboard as tonight at 20:30 is the very last satellite. The tournament will be a $10+1 turbo with one rebuy/add-on and one seat guaranteed.

Alternatively, you can simply buy in directly, but remember: registration is exclusively through the Black Belt Poker cardroom, meaning you can't just turn up on the day expecting to play.

Bounty Bonanza: Win Your Buy-In Back

East End Live II is just days away and with a $50,000 guaranteed prize pool and WSOP seat added to first place, there's plenty of juicy value up for grabs.

However, we're taking you one stop closer to Valueville by giving you the opportunity to win your buy-in back without even making the money.

If you like the taste of paradise then you're in luck as East End Live will boast a number of preselected poker pros in the field, each with a $225 bounty on their head.

To collect the prize, all you have to do is make sure you are Orange Belt or above on June 01, at which point the prize will be credited into your account.

Bounties will be officially announced at the start of each day, but already confirmed are Neil Channing, Joe Beevers, James Dempsey and defending Champion Sonny Pomroy.

Also playing will be a plethora of other familiar fames from across the poker circuit including Chaz Chattha, Jerome Bradpiece, Kevin Allen and TV's own Jen Mason.

In true Black Belt Live tradition, each bounty will be seated behind a Bounty chocolate bar, which we'll also be throwing in as part of your prize! Amazing.

If you're a budding archer and fancy a bit of target practice, then sign up now for East End Live II, taking place May 10-12.

Entry is exclusively through our online cardroom. Simply start the client and locate the tournament in Scheduled > Black Belt Tournaments.

Alternatively, you can purchase a token in the Black Belt Poker Store in exchange for Spending Points, or participate in tonight's $30+3 Mega Satellite at 20:00.

The Mega Satellite will be a No Limit Hold'em freezeout with a $30+3 buy-in. The tournament can be located in the lobby under Scheduled > Black Belt Tournaments.

To cater for all bankroll sizes, there will also be an array of $5+0.50 turbo feeders leading up to the satellite. They will run every 30 minutes from 18:15 tonight and 17:15 tomorrow.

Purple Belt Receives a Makeover

Black Belt Poker are delighted to announce that starting today there will be some major changes to Purple Belt.

Purple Belt is the fourth step on the Belt-Up Rewards System, requiring 5,000 Belt Points to reach, and 2,500 to maintain.

However, we've decided to turn those figures on their heads and make Purple Belt a lot more accessible to recreational players.

From May onwards, Purple Belt will now cost just 1,500 Belt Points to achieve, and the same figure to maintain, making it over three times easier to reach.

Having surveyed a number of players, we've also decided to modify the rewards on offer, making them more attractive than ever before.

As a Purple Belt, you will now be treated to two exclusive freerolls a month, on top of the four Orange Belt Freerolls. This means you'll now get to play six freerolls each and every single month.

Purple Belt Freerolls will take place every other Thursday at 19:30, with the inaugural event being Going Live on May 09, in which we'll be giving away not one, but two free seats into the upcoming East End Live II.

Check out our promotions page for the full schedule.

This month will also witness the introduction of Piece of the Pie, a brand new promotion in which we give you free shares of a Black Belt Poker pro in the $200,000 GTD ($200+15).

Every week we'll be chopping up 10 percent of any winnings equally between all Purple Belts, meaning you could receive money directly into your account just by sitting on the rail.

With our Monkey Magic Freeroll in June and the increased rate of points (Purples receive 5x for every $ raked), it's never been a better time to be Purple Belt and we hope you'll make the jump and take advantage of all the value on offer.
