Chain Ruaction; Robinson Wins Samurai

The way of the Samurai was Black Belt Poker last night, as Owen Ruaction Robinson emerged from the battlefield as the sole surviving warrior.

With 36 competing for a $10,000 guarantee there was an enticing overlay for those with the loudest war cry, but it was Owen who seized the moment and collected the $4,000 reward.

The field was awash with talent, such as Sam Grafton, Richard Ashby, and recent East End Live II Champion Nik Stylianou. Reigning League Champion Timothy HammerHorror O'Mahoney was also an intimidating presence.

They weren't the only names wielding swords as former Champion Adam sirusthevirus1 Stoneham was playing while on his honeymoon in Tunisia. "She could be a keeper," suggested Neil Channing.

Meanwhile, an in-form Paul 2LAMCHOP2 Lamonby had earned a spot after winning both the Deepstack Mulligan and Turbo Takedown in succession, and seven others had qualified from the previous night's Mega Satellite.

Some big names fell early on with David Pomroy (35th), Neil Channing (34th), and Niall Farrell (32nd) later followed by former Champion Frederick Ogilvie (17th). Then, with Peter Derrick feeling the splash of the bubble, we were down to our final table of six.

With the likes of UKIPT Brighton Champion Jamie Burland and inaugural Ninja Champion Hasmukh Khodiyara sharpening their blades, this was probably the toughest Samurai final to date, but it was one that Owen overcome after toppling Blue Belt David Gentry heads-up.

A 30-year old semi-pro from Wexford, Owen is a former Grab a Grand winner who won two trophies at the 2010 Irish Poker Awards including the illustrious Player of the Year title for his impressive trio of UKIPT cashes.

"That was a lot of fun," rejoiced Owen. "David and Jamie played great from two tables out, particularly when we were hand for hand. I picked up hands in key pots; people folded when I didn't have it."
