Dempsey immediately popped up halfway across the room, where one eye is fixed on Nicky Evans, who's already made one final table this festival. At least he'll be cheered to know that for every chip he loses in level one, someone's helpfully handed back to Evans... I caught this hand from the turn where Evans was flat calling a 2,400 bet with the board reading Js-Qh-8s-6d. The river came a non-threatening 3d, but the original better checked this time, facing a bet of 2,000 moments later. He quickly made the call, flipping a 9d - the other card accidentally fell face down, making Evans pause with his Kc-Ks on the table... but the partner card was another 9s - and a good pot shipped his way.
