Silke Smooth Call
Simon Eastwood's once pack-leading stack has taken a few knocks this level, one of them coming in a bit of an odd hand vs. Martin Silke (pictured). Silke had limped preflop (blinds 1k/2k) and Eastwood had raised it up to 12k. He called this raise with a swiftness which would characterise all his following actions too. Both players checked the 9c-2s-4s flop, but Silke bet out as soon as the Qs turn hit the felt. Eastwood called. The river brought the Jd and an insta-bet-out of 15k from Silke, who threaded chips with a speed and compulsiveness that made me want to chew my fingernails. Eastwood thought it through, and eventually sensed some level of weakness, because he hero-called with Ad-Kh high - but Silke showed 7s-7d and took the sizeable pot down.
Elsewhere, in Other News:
John Baughman spikes with A-Q vs. A-K to double through.
Dave Colclough doubles to 40k after raising on the button with Ah-Kc and finding Aaron Barry wanting to reraise out of the big blind putting him all in with the dominated Kd-Jd.
Mark Bointon loses a crucial pot leaving himself with 1k, nearly gets out of the cardroom before his table call him back pointing to his chips and letting him know he's still in. Andreas Hagen, uncharacteristically effusive, encourages his felted neighbour: "What a comeback it would be for you! I am rooting for you, man!" while someone has left him paracetamol next to his collection of side-table glassware :)
This guy, Jamie Brown, has around 170k now, having busted, among others Carey Hollick. His Jd Qd took out her pocket Eights just now, propelling him into an almost certain chip lead.
Out are John Eames, Tim Flanders and Mark Bointon, Norwegian exhortation notwithstanding.
