Tony Dobson, despite arriving late due to the Planned Engineering Works (the fact that they weren't a total surprise makes them no less irritating) has just doubled up to over 110k after making a pretty big call against early chip leader Spencer Lawrence.
There was already 30k in the pot by the time they'd hit the turn - and I wish I could bring you the prior action for a fuller picture of this one - the board standing 2d-Qh-7c-8c. Lawrence had just moved all-in, probably over a bet from Dobson, but in any case he was putting his opponent to the test for his whole 39,500 remaining stack. Dobson tanked, as seems reasonable in such a situation. He thought for a long while about it, before suddenly making the call, with the snappiness of a chameleon suddenly lunging for a fly.
He turned his hand over first: Qc-Th for top pair only. Lawrence tapped the table, revealing Kd-8d which stayed behind on the river and crippled his stack. There goes my pick One. At least Hagen hasn't turned up - must beat Homer at Pick The Player today.
