When a whole table of poker players make that "Oooohhh," noise you should, as a reporter, generally pay attention, because it tends to denote the completion of a particularly sick outdraw, or the transfer of a tournament-relevant number of chips...
I caught this hand (and when I say caught, I mean I followed James Roberts) as Ian Woodley moved all-in vs. Luke Trotman. The turn had come down 8c, making the board 4d-5c-7d-8c. That's two-flushing and very straighty. Woodley had comfortably overbet the pot with his shove which was around the 12k mark, and Trotman was dwelling... and dwelling...
Satnam Sandhu-Wasal came over conspiratorially and said, "If he makes that call, Woodley's going home. You'll see."
Eventually, Trotman made the call, with 4c-6c. Woodley, however, had the current nuts with the 6h-9c. All poised to take down a 30k pot the river came down... Kc! Oh the flushy pain. It looks like Sandhu-Wasal is some kind of seer, as Woodley did go home, just not the way he clearly expected.
