It really didn't look like Vach Nankoosing, who'd quietly progressed thus far with a calmly confident air, got off the starting blocks at all today against tough opponent Tom Bentham. Bentham took down almost every pot, and certainly all pots with a stack-affecting size to them. After the reported hands, the dealer shrugged saying Nankoosing had really seemed card dead, and not at all happy about it. Both players walked silently off into the cardroom after it was all over, like ghosts moving back into the comforting Casino on the Marie Celeste.
Down to just over 5,000, the final hand went like this: Bentham raised to 325 on the button (blinds are now 50/100). Nankoosing called. The flop came 2d-9d-2s. Check to the raiser - he bet 525 only to find Nankoosing raising to 3,000. Looking at his opponent's stack, Bentham moved all in, called.
Nankoosing: 4c-4d
Bentham: Qs 9h
Top pair held like it was superglued to the Winner's podium, and we have our first finalist. Tom Bentham is guaranteed to give either Gryko or Flushy a run for their money on the 25th.
