Sudden Drama - Double for Otto

Marcus Otto, an even match in thoughtful, some might say relaxed-paced poker for Richard Gryko, just turned the balance decidedly in his favour. A raised pot preflop saw a board of 7c-Ac-4c come down and a check to button Gryko. He bet 650 (just under pot). Back to Otto, who raised him to 2,000. After just a short while, Gryko said what sounded like, "All in." That was indeed what he said, and I was surprised to see that Otto looked serious about putting his tournament life on the line right then and there after such a cagey start. He had over 10k, and in it went... with Ah-Jc, top pair and a nice flush draw. This can't have been what Gryko wanted to see, what with 5s-6h for the up-and-down draw only.

The turn filled it. The 8s landed giving Gryko the straight without either player moving a muscle or reacting in any way to this clearly significant event. The 2c, too, landed on the river giving a flush, and the pot, to Otto, with just the barest hint of a frown from the now 2,700-stacked Gryko.

This all went in pretty sharpish, with A-4 vs. Otto's A-2 preflop. Now I am beginning to suspect that this table will always involve some kind of fate-twist before every pot is awarded - Otto flopped an Ace and a Deuce for two pair, but the board came out fully A-2-T-3...4 which did just as well out-pipping the German's second pair. Otto counted out Gryko's smaller double-through with the first frustration-related noise heard so far in this tournament.
