Dwindlers and Doublers (100/200 level)

Tony Dobson (above left, looking like he's been photographed in black-and-white next to Hoa Ngo) just doubled through back to around his starting stack after a disappointing start. The hand that saw it all happen, Dobson raised on the button to 600 and picked up just one caller - Bruno Fernandes. The flop was 2c-8h-9h; Fernandes check-called 1,100. The turn was the 2d - now Fernandes tried to check-raise Dobson all in but threw in one 5k chip in answer to the 2,100 bet. It went as a call. Now he put him all in on the 5d river. Dobson hesitated, but with 1,800 left didn't really have much choice, and called with Qc-Qs, pleased to find it ahead.

Elsewhere, the guy with the innovative hair (Van Pham) has had a rocky road vs. David Johnson (below). First off I saw him dwelling with a pained expression as Johnson was betting on the river with the board standing Ks-Ad-7c-Jc-8c. He eventually announced, "Call," and then found himself in the sad situation of having to get the chips out of your stack and send them to someone else's after it's all over and the winning hand (in this case Johnson's straight with Qd-Td) has already been shown.

Johnson here pictured eyeing with suspicion the actually-quite-nice little bowls of food coming round at this time. He went on to bet the flop and turn (board 4s-6h-8s-Kc) only to make a surprising pass when Van Pham check-raised from 1,200 to 2,500 (all in) when the King fell.
